Cookie information

The State Audit Office of Hungary (SAO), as the operator of the website www.asz.hu, uses cookies to support the proper and efficient operation of the website and to foster improvements to make it more „user-friendly”, taking into account the online data security risks.

1. What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small data package that internet services store in your browser when you visit a website. Cookies have many functions. Among other things, they collect information, store visitors’ individual preferences, are used, and generally make it easier for users to navigate websites.

No cookie contains any information that would allow anyone to contact you by e-mail, phone, or regular mail.

2. What cookies does the SAO use and for what purpose?

Cookies used by the SAO on its website:

  • session cookies (strictly necessary)
  • functional cookies (optional)
  • statistical cookies (optional)

By default, we only use session cookies that do not require your consent and are strictly necessary for the functioning of the site.

In addition, we use optional ‘functional cookies’ and ‘statistical cookies’ on our website. Choosing to set optional cookies is only an option, which in all cases implies the individual consent of the visitor.

2.1. Strictly necessary, session cookies

Session cookies are necessary to enable visitors to browse our website and use its features, for example, allow the website to remember actions performed on a page by the user. Without the use of these cookies, we would not be able to provide you with a smooth experience on our website.

Collected data: no session cookie data is stored in relation to the user.

Retention period: The validity period of these cookies is limited to your current visit, and this type of cookie is automatically deleted at the end of the session or when you close the browser.

2.2. Functional cookies

These cookies allow visitors to customise their preferences for our website, such as accepting the cookie notice or setting the language of their choice. Without the use of these cookies, our website may function smoothly but in a less ‘user-friendly’ way.

Collected data: We do not store any data about the user in relation to functional cookies.

Retention period: Data from functional cookies are stored for 30 days, after which they are automatically deleted from your browser.

2.3. Statistical cookies

These cookies allow us to collect activity and certain demographic information about our website users. For example, they provide information on the geographical location of the visit, the frequency of visits, the dates and durations spent on the website. This may help us to further enhance the ‘user-friendliness’ of our website.

At the State Audit Office of Hungary, the collection of statistical cookies is supported by Google Analytics servers as an external service provider, and SAO uses web beacons from Google to analyse user behaviour while browsing the website. Information collected from these and other websites may also be used by Google to improve its products and services, as well as to deliver relevant advertisements to you. For more information about this practice, or to find out what you can do to prevent Google from using the information it collects about you, please click here.

Collected data: No personal data that can directly identify the user is stored in relation to statistical cookies; only an identifier. Our website uses this to track user activity and certain demographic information.

Retention period: Statistical cookie data are kept for 30 days, after which they are automatically deleted from your browser. The aggregated reports derived from statistical data are retained by the SAO for 60 days, after which they are automatically deleted.

3. How can you check and turn off cookies?

All modern browsers allow you to change your cookie settings. Most browsers automatically accept cookies by default, but these can usually be changed to prevent automatic acceptance and each time will offer you the choice of whether or not you want to enable cookies.

Please note that by preventing or deleting the use of cookies, our visitors may not be able to use the full functionality of our website or the website may not function as intended in their browser.

For more detailed information on cookie settings for the browsers can be found below:
