Zsolt Herczegh, audit director of the State Audit Office of Hungary, has been awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of Hungary

On the occasion of the anniversary of the beginning of the 1848 Revolution and War of Independence, dr. Tamás Sulyok, President of Hungary, awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of Hungary to Zsolt Herczegh, audit director.

Zsolt Herczegh was awarded the high state honour in recognition of his outstanding professional achievements in making public auditing more efficient, improving tax morale, encouraging voluntary compliance and promoting effective public administration.

Zsolt Herczegh has been working for more than 25 years to ensure that financial markets and taxation operate in a regular and transparent way. He started his career at the tax authority, where he held a number of important management positions, and his work contributed significantly to the renewal of the state tax authority’s audit activities and the development of related methodologies. Since October 2022, as audit director of the State Audit Office of Hungary, he has been working to promote the appropriate, efficient, cost-effective, value-preserving and value-enhancing use of public assets, as well as their indirect utilisation and encouraging the increase of public assets.
