EU Contact Committee

The EU Contact Committee is a forum for the cooperation of the EU member state audit institutions and the European Court of Auditors (ECA), within the framework of which the referred institutions – in accordance with the Treaty establishing the European Community – preserve their independence and respect their constitutional mandate, they work together in a spirit of trust. With the development of European integration, the Contact Committee was also expanded, the audit institutions of individual member states became members of the organisation after the accession of their country to the EU. The mission of the organisation is to contribute to the exchange of professional knowledge and experience regarding the audit of EU resources and EU-related topics.

In line with its name, the Contact Committee helps maintaining relations between the audit institutions and the transfer of information. Its aim is to enhance cooperation between Member States and the ECA in order to ensure effective auditing and strengthen accountability within the EU. It promotes inter- institutional cooperation, initiates and coordinates cooperative audits of focusing on common policies of the European Union in order to support joint initiatives aimed at improving the quality of the financial management of the EU and good governance.

Within the network of the EU Contact Committee, cooperation takes place at the following forums:

  • meeting of EU Liaison Officers;
  • discussions of the task force supporting the work of the EU Liaison Officers;
  • meetings of working groups dealing with different, well-defined professional

The State Audit Office of Hungary became a member and active partner in this network after Hungary joined the European Union.
